3 Tips To Crush Your Turkey Trot

Thanksgiving is just around the corner and that means lots of you are dusting off your running shoes for a local Turkey Trot.

Here are 3 tips to make this year’s run go better than ever before:

  1. Pre Race Strides

Strides are 30 second warm up accelerations. Start at a jog and progress your speed to about 95% of your MAX. This is the most efficient and effective running warm up you can do. Do 5 sets of these before your race.

  1. Ease Into It

It is crucial to prevent your Heart Rate from shooting to the moon as soon as the race starts. Take the first 1/4 to 1/2 mile to find a comfortable breath before starting to push your pace.

  1. Negative Splits

Your mile times should get progressively faster by 10 to 30 seconds. If you are wanting to run the race at an 8 minute mile pace, here are the splits to shoot for:

  • Mile 1: 8:20
  • Mile 2: 8:00
  • Mile 3: 7:40
  • Final .1 ALL OUT
